Indiana Yearly Meeting

Missions Scholarship Guidelines

The scholarship is available for mission trips as determined by the following guidelines:

Definition of “Missions”

1.  Missions is obeying the mandate of Jesus Christ to reach beyond our own cultural

community to make disciples of all nations, utilizing the variety of spiritual gifts, talents and

     resources God has provided.

To qualify as a “missions trip”, the activity must:

  1. Arise from the purpose of evangelism and/or discipleship.
  2. Include a plan for personal and/or team preparation in spiritual readiness, and

ongoing devotional input/practice of spiritual disciplines throughout.

  1. Include a plan for engaging the target group.  This may occur directly, or indirectly,

    through training/equipping others.

2.  Missions is distinguished from local outreach, which is obedience to the mandate of Jesus to make disciples among one’s own cultural community.

Applicants

1. Must attend an Indiana Yearly Meeting Local Meeting. Membership is not required.

2. The project or mission trip for which the applicant is requesting the scholarship for will not be restricted only to Friends Ministries. However, the missions committee strongly encourages churches and individuals seeking missions experiences to consider involvement with Friends ministries around the world first and foremost.
