Ministry
and Oversight
We were saddened that it was necessary
for IYM Ministry and Oversight be involved in a problem within South
Marion Friends Meeting. Several letters were exchanged, individuals from
the meeting representing differing points of view were heard, and numerous
phone calls were exchanged involving the former superintendent, former
assistant superintendent, and the current superintendent. The problem has
not yet been resolved and we continue to pray, seek, and work toward
resolution. We covet your prayers in this matter.
The Recommended Minimum-Based Guidelines
for a Fully Released Pastor for 2000-01 were reviewed and upgraded.
The subcommittee consisting of Elizabeth
Bunner, Bob Phillips, and Charles Carter planned Ministry and Oversight's
sponsored workshop at Yearly Meeting. Anne Thomas of Canada Yearly Meeting
presented a workshop on "The Role and Responsibilities of Ministry
and Oversight Members."
We requested from Stewardship and Finance
Committee $1,550 for anticipated needs for the coming budget year.
Sheldon Clark and Ronn Oren have been
approved by Ministry and Oversight for recording as Ministers of the
Gospel at the 180th session of Indiana Yearly Meeting, July 29-31, 2000,
to be held in Muncie, Indiana, at the Horizon Center and Friends Memorial.
This recommendation was sent to the Representative Council for their
approval at their April 1, 2000, meeting.
Ministry and Oversight Committee is
considering reinstating the policy of M&O's responsibility to work
with local meetings each year to develop a written "state of the
society" report to be presented at yearly meeting as is stated in Faith
and Practice. Your reaction and input to such a report being prepared
would be appreciated by the committee.
Bob Phillips, clerk for the Nominating
Committee, (consisting of himself, Elizabeth Bunner, and Harold Bowman)
reported the following: clerk - Charles Carter; assistant clerk - Paul
Enyart; and recording clerk - David Edinger.
Yearly Meeting Ministry and Oversight
Committee continues to request your prayers.
Dick Martens, Clerk
