Peace and
Christian Social Concerns Committee
(As outlined
in the IYM Faith and Practice)
The Indiana
Yearly Meeting Peace and Christian Social Concerns Committee consists of one
member appointed by each Quarterly Meeting and three members appointed by the
Yearly Meeting.
In
accordance with the teaching of Jesus Christ and the historic testimonies of
Friends, the Committee encourages and assists the Yearly Meeting and Monthly
Meetings in the areas of race relations, peace, and concerns for the total human
condition.
This
Committee’s tasks are:

To promote the building of a just society, free of racial
discrimination and other un-Christian treatment of persons so
that cooperation and love may prevail.
-
To work as followers of the Prince of Peace for the worldwide
abolition of military conscription and armaments.
-
To counsel young persons regarding conscientious objection to
military service.
-
To promote goodwill and seek organizational procedures to settle
disputes peacefully.
-
To work toward eliminating those things which are harmful to
humanity.
-
To promote the development and use of human and material
resources to enhance the quality of life for all people.
-
To cooperate with Friends and other agencies which work for
peace and Christian social ideals.
